Clay Cooley Motor Co. Specializes in bad credit financing of autos, but they are just a rip-off for poor people.in mid-September, I gave them $1,000 as a down payment for a Ford Explorer. I am a hard-working single mom who had credit problems due to death of my husband.
One week later, I was told that I was approved and instructed to pick up my car "before someone else buys this great car".
In the weeks following, Clay Cooley's staff called me at home and at work for various bank statements and other proof for the lender, which I provided. Within two weeks, I changed jobs within my company and moved out of my home because it was too expensive to afford a big rent and make big car payments. I ultimately lost my job in switching departments and the next week, Clay Cooley called to tell me that me approved loan was now "unapproved". He wanted to take my car back THREE WEEKS after signing sales contracts, handing me the keys, and cashing my check.
I told him that he couldn't do this. I needed the car to work. He and his staff then began stalking me and calling around to friends, neighbors and people that I do business with. I became afraid, but felt that I was legally entitled to the car because I bought it and intended to make payments as soon as I was told where to send payment.
Last week, as I was driving with my daughter, I was stopped by police and arrested and sent to jail for "Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle". Clay Cooley had reported the car STOLEN. I had never been to jail before and was humiliated and scared. I now am out on bail for a FELONY charge for just buying a car. The police told me to find a lawyer because even they felt that the situation was bogus, but I cannot afford one. I have a public defender for my criminal case. Meanwhile, Clay Cooley has his car back and will not even return my money. It's been a NIGHTMARE!!!
If anyone can help get the word out to stop this from happening to another young woman or can point me in a direction to report him to the proper authorities, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
