Ripoff false diagnostic overcharge

My car was making a loud noise and I wasn't able to identify it. I took the car at a local Pepboys and they weren't able to identify the problem either and suggested I have the transmission checked out.

I called in AAMCO Transmissions located in Centereach and explained to John that the car was making a loud noise and that I wanted to check my transmission. He asked me if the car was shifting fine. I replied YES. He asked me if the clutch was slipping. I replied NO.

They towed my car to their location on 12/30/04. I was told the car would be ready on 01/03/04.

I received a call on 01/03/04 and John told me the problem was that my transmission was leaking. I got overcharged for the work and they forced me to do 2 other jobs on my car and the parts.

When I picked my car up on 01/06/04, the car was making the exact same noise it was making when it went into AAMCO Transmissions located in Centereach.

I filled a complaint with their headquarter on 01/07/04. Later that day I went to the AAMCO Transmissions location that did the job and asked John why my car wasn't fixed? He had another technician test drive the car. The technician found out that the noise was coming from the front right strut of the car.

I asked John why the technician who did the original test drive didn't report the noise from the strut. John couldn't give me an answer. I proceeded and asked for a copy of the original diagnostic. John told me he could NOT give it to me and that he didn't have it with him (This conversation took place at their location in Centereach). I asked John why he never called me to tell me that the noise came from the strut? He told me that he was never made aware of that problem.

To sum it all, I called in AAMCO located in Centereach, spoke to John and told him that my car was making a noise so I wanted to check my transmission. He towed my car and told me that the problem of the car is at the transmission. Turns out that the problem was not with the transmission but instead with the strut. AAMCO Transmissions located in Centereach did a false diagnostic and never reported the real problem with the car. It worked great for them because a job on a transmission costs much more than a job on a strut.
