Ed Lafferty $7100 Goes 25 miles from Car Lot and Engine Blows

My husband had been speaking with Ed and his son Shawn about this truck. Ed said he took it in to be checked out, and that he does it to all cars/trucks he is selling. The mechanic and Ed said a head gasket leak, but strong engine. My husband and son took it down the road a short distance as Ed stressed he need to get to church that evening and didn't want to be late. During the test drive one of the meter needles started bouncing and Ed said he had just put a new sensor on it. So trusting Ed, my husband decided to purchase and gave Ed $7100 cash. My husband did sign and "as is". Well on the way home the truck starting making a loud noisy, about 25 miles from the Car lot it blew the engine and we had to call triple A to haul it to our mechanics. My hisband left messages for Ed and he finally replied the following day saying by law he couldn't return our money. My husband explained to him that we do not want to return the truck and that if we had even drove it for a few days to a week we would not have even called him about it, but 25 miles from the car lot! So my husband asked for him to help pay toward an engine... He said he had put all he was going to put into it and has already took a loss on it (which was very minimal compared to what he has now passed on to us.) We would not have purchased the truck if it were not for the answer he had gave us, looking back, he had an answer for everything, even why the truck was first listed under a owner, not a dealer, saying he had let his son drive it all summer and so he posted the ad on graigslist, to find out it was Eds and he was a car lot. We have already purchased an engine that our mechanic will be payed also to put in when it arrives. All my husband asked for was at least $1500 to help since we only drove 25 miles from the lot... We are now putting thousands more. As owning two business ourselves, $1500 to help keep your reputation good if you were being honest is asking a small amount, and yes my husband did sign an "As is" but 25 mile from car lot? Something fishy!
