GEICO says they have the lowest premiums but when you get done you will have paid twice as much for your accident as you would going with a higher premium company. My son had a not at fault car accident on 10/31. GEICO Claim # 0255362980101014
The GEICO appraiser said the car could be repaired and had the car towed to the body shop. A week and a half later my son received a payment check made out to him and the repair shop. He took the check to the repair shop. Upon arrival to the repair shop he was informed that absolutely no work had been done on his car in a week and a half. An honest worker at the shop said the appraiser had phoned the shop several times asking gfor items to make a supplement so she could total the car. The appraiser had been into the shop earlier that day insisting that they find more items wrong with the vehicle because she had decided to total the car. Ahe had just picked up her supplement and the body shop workers now told my son his car was now going to be totaled not repaired. My son was never notified of any of this and only found out when he arrived to pay the body shop for the work which he thought would be near completion!
At this point I became involved in this underhandedness by GEICO insurance company becasue my son does not have time with his work scedule or he will lose his job in addition to this GEICO caused car nightmare. I called GEICO claims and they said the car was being repaired. I looked into my son's GEICO web account Poilicy # 4018313058 and it said the car was being repaired and showed the invoice for the repairs. I then emailed several GEICO Administrative addresses and was contacted by the Auto Salvage Supervisor in Bedford, TX. This man and I exchanged several emails in which first he tried to offer my son a settlement of $3700.00 for a $10,000.00 car. During our correspondances he insinuated he could have my son's rental car taken away that day if I chose not to settle immediately. At this point I filed a Complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance and faxed it to him.
The next day this Auto Salvage Supervisor offered low NADA price for the car. I refused this also. Later he offered a mid priced NADA amount which came to $6120.00. Even though this is no where near enough money to pay for another car of equal value to the one totaled, I accepted this offer because my son is without a vehicle and this supervisor has now cut off his rental car! I have pleaded with this man repeatedly to extend this rental car for just one week so my son can deliver the title to his office and pick up his check! Right now my son is paying someone to drive him to the GEICO Bedford office and has been there twice and told that the check is not available, even though I have been told via email that the check is waiting there. GEICO now owes my son another $50.00 in transportaion fees to the Bedford office. A rental car would have been cheaper.
My son had only had the rental car for 1 week before this Auto salvage Supervisor canceled the rental becasue he is mad at me! My son's rental only came to approximately $150.00 and my son has $750.00 of rental insurance., GEICO has ripped us out of! This Supervisor is simply denying him a rental car because he is angry about the settlement amount and not being able to pad his wallet with his commission for settling this claim low buck.
Now my son is without a car, without a rental, and had to walk to his job in the rain for days because some inflated headed supervisor at the Bedford, TX GEICO office can't be a professional and accept the fact he wasn't able to rip someone off on the car settlement amount.
My son only had two days usage of the rental car after his car was deemed "totaled." This is ridiculous. He could have had his own car repaired and be driving it, if the appraiser had not changed her mind so late into the process.
And to top it all off GEICO is too lazy to go after the uninsured Mexican immigrant who hit him and fled the scene! They are charging my son FULL $500.00 DEDUCTIBLE. He should have to pay zero deductible or $250.00 maximum for Uninsured/Underinsured coverage which he had coverage for. So there is another $500.00 GEICO has ripped us off for. Even though my son took a photo of this woman's license plate with his cell phone as she fled the scene, yelling " No policia! No policia!" As my son filed the police report the officers provided him, and he provided GEICO, with this woman's name address and TX Driver's License number. I suppose GEICO is now going to try to pin this on my son in some way because they are too cheap to find this woman and extract payment from her. Then my son will be rated as a high rish driver and have to pay exhorbitant car insurance premiums. The police have said the faccident was not my son's fault. But GEICO is charging him the deductible as if he is.
So here is the breakdown for what a GEICO Policy really costs you in the end:
$561.00 premium for bad insurance
$3000.00 lost on value of the car
$500.00 deductible we shouldn't have to pay.
$50.00 Transportation becasue of cancelled rental.
6 Month DFW GEICO Premium COSTS $4111.00 PLUS being put in a high insurance bracket for years becasue they won't go after an at fault hit and run driver!
