I have been working at Publix for 3 years as a cashier. Sure shopping may be a pleasure sometimes... But working there is a different story. Full Time is hard to come by so your stuck working unstable part-time hours. I mean how are you supposed to be able to live off of 30 hours one week and 15 the next? Managment doesnt like to get thier hands dirty and will often stand in a group and watch us struggle. Must be nice to get paid more to do less. I used to be a chipper, happy cashier with the 'publix' motto. I now tell this to all new recruits, this place will suck the life out of you. Til your left with a bitter tired being. Remember customers. Most the time it isnt the cashiers fault about changes in policies. The nitwits upstairs like to tell us different rules week to week. Often leaving us very confused on what is right. So if i seem and annoyed, be patient with me. I am as human (not robots who are stuck in kiss ass mode) as you are and have bad days myself. We cashier and baggers are just trying to cling to the small amout of sanity we have left.
