Let's see where to start...
My wife and i have been the resturaunt buisness for a combined 30 years and I have never had a meal this bad. The service was not so bad, it was acttually pretty good overall; but, we are not high mainenance.
We have been hearing great things about this place since they opened about a eyar ago so decided to see what the big talk was about.
We walked in and ot immediately sat; then it took a little while for our server to come and get a drink order (normal here in AZ). Let me interject - i have been craving lobster and shrimop for months-
ok
So the server talks us into geting what they refer to as a bucket - for 213 dollar you get to pick 4 items from a list (remember this point i'll talk about it again later) with the bucket yopu get warm tortillas and (butter) and a trip to the "ceaser salad" bar.
Needles to say we got the bucket and in the spirit of craving seafood we both got crab legs (1 bundle) lobster tails (3- really small tails) and shrimp.
I know three items right well to get to the magic 4 we decided to get double order of shrimp (i'll come back to this later too)
After our order - oh yeah to drink iced tea-the best part of the whole meal... Sad: (
upon arrriving at the "ceaser salad" bar i noticed it consisted of romain lettuce, croutons ceaser dressing, tortilla strips? And 6 types of salsa. Nop bacon bits, egg, chease nothing else... Oh yeah and i am still trying to figure what was growing in the caeser dressing?
I should have left at that point ; but, i figured since it was complimentary i would deal with it.
So here copmes the meal it was in a metal bucklet, fine for the display i guess; what they failed to tell me -even after i advised it was my first time their - was that the food was first boiled in plain water, then fried in a skillet and smother i mean smothered in "baja seasoning" - they refuised to tell me what was in it -not good for someone with a heart problem - but it was a whole lot of salt, parika and safron (from taste) the worse part was the put so much of the stuff on the food that parts of it were crunchy, the pout this baja seasoning on everything -the butter - the rubbery calamari (not that difficult to cook-30 second at 375) and on all of the meat - the srhhimp the lobster and the crab legs.
Here is a free cooking tip, when boiling shell fish season the water so that the shellfish has some sort of flavor otherwise you are left with tasteless bland white meat. Dousing it adfter is cooked leaves you with messy tasteless stuff.
Luckily for me (woo hoo) the did butterfly the shell so you get an initial punch of salty distugusting seasoning then the rest tasted like a tire.
I ate my meal only because it was 2030 pm and i had not eaten all day.
Then i get my bill
remember that 4 items in a bucket thing..
They charged us for the shrimp instead of letting us use it as our fourth item..
Insteafd of a 23.00 dollar entree it was 30 bucks
i paid 96.00 for calamari-crappy
... A bucket of salty seasoning
... And 2 iced teas...
Ahhh yes gratifying, gratifying indeed a hundred bucks to salty seasoning out of a bucket. Thank you baja lobster thank you it is really sad when you walk out and compare a place to red lobster and red lobster comes out on top.
