Bank Of America
$605.45 in deposit envelope "lost", NO REFUND ripoff

I am writing this report regarding a major issue I am having with Bank of America.

I have only been a BOA customer for about a month and a half. I live in CT, and because BOA and Fleet have not yet merged in my area, my only way to make deposits is to send them through the mail to Bank of America in Tamps, FL.

Preparing to mail my deposit, I made sure to include my deposit slip and endorsed checks. The total of the deposit was $605.45. I mailed this out Priority Mail on 10/15 and made sure to have delivery confirmation put on it to make sure it was delivered. On 10/18, I was notified by the United States Postal Service that the envelope had been delivered that morning.

On 10/20, I noticed that the funds were still not in my account and so I called. The man I spoke with told me there were no deposits pending into my account and that they had recieved nothing. I told him I had physical proof; a receipt, showing the tracking and Delivery confirmation number and that it was confirmed by the USPS that the envelope was in fact delivered. He told me that the bank must have lost my envelope. He assured me that if I had that confirmation number, Bank of America would be forced to credit me the $605.45 since they had lost the envelope. He instituted an investigation and told me to call back tomorrow to check the status and see if the envelope was located anf funds deposited.

On 10/21 I called back and explained the situation to a woman who informed me that regardless of if I had proof of the envelope's delivery, they would not credit me the money. I told her it was extremely hard for me to believe that a major national bank was telling me they had lost my deposit money and refused to do anything about it. She simply replied, "Yes, unfortunately that is the case" I was absolutely shocked. I demanded to speak to the department manager. When I was transfered, I explained the situation to the manager. She told me that even if they had lost the envelope, Bank of America doesn't have the means to credit my account for the money. Again, I was shocked.

Since then, I have been promised return calls regarding my investigation and I have recieved none. When I call to check the status, I am told it is "under investigation" and that they can not give me any more details.

This was my first transaction with this bank and it will surely be my last. I made it clear that I would be removing the rest of the money from my account and closing the account after I was credited the money. There is no Bank of America branch in CT yet so I can not go anywhere to speak with someone. I have to rely on the phone and mail until Fleet completes the merger in my area.

In addition to this, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Florida, the Connecticut Department of Banking, and the banking commissioner of CT. I am also looking into contacting my local news station regarding this. I'm sure many Fleet customers would be interested to find out what they are about to deal with regarding this bank.

A bank is supposed to be a partnership, and a corporation that protects and assures that your money is in responsible hands. Never in my life would I have dreamed that my bank would, in essence, rob me of my money on their error and then refuse to do anything about it. Please, if you are a BOA customer watch out. If you are a Fleet customer, realize you are no longer dealing with Fleet's practices, you are dealing with a ruthless bank and your money may be in danger.
