Complaint / Review
Regional Adjustment Bureau
Called to make payment. Rep made false statements regarding company sending both legal docs and settlement offer. Rep wouldn't accept my payment and only option was to double my payment. Completely

I called in to satisfy a payment that did not process approximately 2 weeks after the usual draft date. The agency could not process because I had lost my debit/cc and replaced it with a temporary which was deactivated upon receiving my newcard. I forgot to call in to the agency and give them the new card which was activated prior to the draft. Upon realizing this, I CALLED THEM, to make my payment of $250. To date, the company had received $250 every month for 1.5 years.

The usual gentleman I spoke with was no longer handling my account. I was then transferred to their "legal" department. The representative stated my account was transferred to his department due to there being a couple disruptions in payments received.

The first disruption occurred because after I fulfilled my first year (in good standing) the auto-debit stopped. Apparently, its the consumers responsibility to remember when to call and renew. However, the company contacted me and I set payments up again. No problem.

The other disruption happened due to losing my debit card and awaiting a new card to give for payment. First I gave the temporary and then the new debit card. Bottom line is I made all my payments. So being sent to an alleged "legal" department seemed unreasonable and excessive.

The rep stated that legal/litigation documents were sent to me. Not only did this sound completely unreasonable, but it was a fabrication. I never received such docs and let the rep know this.

The rep then stated I was sent a settlement offer to pay off the entire loan amount. Also, a false statement. I said I had not and he proceeded to make me an offer asking for over $10,000. Not doable and unreasonable. Also, due to his fabricating for purposes of leverage was a bit unsettling.

I stated I was calling to make my normal payment of $250. He said he would not accept it. This seemed absurd. Your customer calls to pay and you decline. He then stated that in order to resume payments I'd have to double my payment to $500. Again, an absurdity.

I to date, willfully, pay my other student loans, but have no interest in paying this one because of the unreasonable operational collections model and moreover, the deceit used by the rep. It's simply illogical and not right.

I believe getting a good education is valuable and have personally vested a lot of time and money in it. Companies like the Regional Adjustment Bureau should either consider operating with greater integrity or rid personnel that deliberately lie to the consumer in an attempt to strike fear in them to try to squeeze more money.

This has obviously adversely affected my credit which is unfortunate. If this company does the right thing, I am willing to continue payments. This will require any and all fees waived and accepting reasonable payment.
