Cross Country Bank
Ripoff Navigating Rough Waters Full of Sharks

Greetings everyone. I've been reading for close to an hour about all the horror stories that seem to come while having a Cross Country Credit Card. I too fell into the "re-establish your credit" trap. I learned quickly after two payments that the amounts were not going down but instead increasing at an alarming rate. My card originally had a $400.00 limit.

When I saw the slew of "misc" charges being racked up monthly I called Cross Country and tried to have them explain these charges. I was informed the details were in my contract. My failure to completely read the entire contract was my fault, but it also helped me make the decsion to stop paying Cross Country.

Once I read the entire contract I attempted to talk to a manager at Cross Country about the "misc charges" these charges were a monthly usage fee (weather or not you used the card you still recieved this charge every month) and an annual fee that was spread out over the 12 months. My monthly payment before even paying on any of the debt was over $40.00. When I mentioned this to the Manager he said that I knew it when I signed the agreement and if I didn't know it then I knew now. I told them this was a ripoff, and that this was not helping anyone "re-establish" their credit. They said the balance was due regardless. I told them I was of the mind to not pay the debt. He informed me they would put it on my credit report.

I told them "Look I had sh*tty credit before you came along." "Your obviously not trying to help anyone and since I can't make you understand that I don't think my paying you monthly will make you understand." I hung up and pretty much wrote these guys off. I'm in a position now where I can clean up some of my debt. I want to pay this debt off and be done with these people so I've contacted the State Attorney's office in Tallahasse. It seems Cross Country was involed in some legal matters concerning False advertisment and theft. I inquired as to what it was about and was told the long drawn out story; however no one could tell me anything about the theft.

My question is this. Has anyone ever succesfully paid off Cross Country and were able to close the account in good standing? I bet I've read 20 articles in this forum alone and I didn't see a single that gave information on how to be successful when dealing with these sharks. If you'd like to hear about what the Florida State Attorney's office did you can contact the Economic Crimes Dept at 850-414-5600.

My next stop is going to be with Florida Dept of Financial Services. My understanding is this is the actualy group who "watchdogs" all the banking in the state of Florida. If anyone has dealt with the Banking Commission in Boca Raton I'd like to hear about that as well or has any information on successful navigation through the treacherous shark infested waters of Cross Country Bank.
