I am glad to find that I am not the only person that has encountered this companies scam practices. I say this tactfully. I received a letter yesterday stating that they had recently purchased AVCO Financial. I had an account with them that was included in bankruptcy court in the year of 1990. I spoke with Dwayne Barnes and a representative in their so called litigation department. He rattled off my SSN and stated that county record showed that this debt had not been included in the bankruptcy.
When correcting him be became verbally abusive, stated that they would continue to report this to the 3 major credit companies and that I could let the information rot in my attic for the rest of my life. He became verbally abusive and I hung up the phone. My husband said that this sounded like a scam and after reading your post I firmly beleive this. I checked my credit report like I do every year and their is no derogatory info on it so they can pack sand. I did send them a letter and stated that legally they have no right to bother me or report anything after 14 years!!!
If they bother me anymore I will not hesitate to take legal action and I will do as some of you have, contact the FTC, BBB and the attorney generals office. People like this are bottom dwellers and should be punished!!!
