I was contacted by Ameriquest after I did an internet search for someone who might be able to us lower our interest on our mortgage. My first mistake was giving this loan officer information over the phone. I gave him some basic personal info. So he could look at our credit report. This was on 4/6/04.
By 4/10/04, he just happened to have an appraisor in our neighborhood to appraise our home. I had not committed to anything at this point. He also faxed my an authorization to sign. I asked him what I was signing, and he said it was to authorize him to be able to contact my creditors. I never signed it and never faxed it back.
On 4/11/04 I found out that Ameriquest had contacted my current mortgage company and received payoff information without my consent. The loan officer also left a message with them using my husbands name, and said they should call us. I got a call and said they were returning a call from my husband.
My husband never called them. I feel that these people are trying to push us into something we are not interested in. They also broke the privacy laws in effect, as I never gave them permission to contact my creditors.
