Refinance my home through Fresh Start Financial. Jerry Maskios, a loan officer there, suggested I use Stewart Title for the close because they gave a "discount" to Fresh Start Financial. Actually, Stewart Title was nearly double the fees of the title company I wanted to use, First American. I refused to do business with them. I would not sign the final papers.
Stewart Title then reduced their fees along with Fresh State Financial.
After I received the settlement papers I realized that $2,100.00 in fees had been added back into the closing cost.
I have a copy of all of the paperwork. Some of the fees went to a secondary Mortgage Co., Uniwest Mortgage. After correspondence a month ago, I have been stonewalled and received no response from Fresh Start Financial. Although I intend to file a formal complaint with the State of California, I would advise anyone thinking of doing business with this company to reconsider. Although my credit was excellent, this company appears to prey on those that can least afford it. Beware!!!
