We had a loan with Equity One. At the first of this year, I received a bonus at work and wanted to pay the loan off. When a representive of Equity One by the name of Richard called me to see if I was sending a payment that month, I replied that I wanted to pay the loan off. I told him the amount that I intended to send in to pay the loan off. I sent the check that day. He stated that would be fine. The next month, I received a statement for interest charges. When I called the company, they stated that I had paid off the principal balance from my statement but failed to get a payoff amount. I repeated the conversation that I had had with their employee. The employee denies the conversation and put in his notes that I was sending a regular monthly payment. Even after receiving the loan balance, he denies ever stating to me that the amount would be "fine". I feel like I had a verbal contract with a representative of their company for the payoff amount and now they refuse to clear my loan. They are demanding additional money to settle the loan.
