I received an offer of a balance transfer for introductory zero percent interest and no fee. It said the Purchases rate would be assessed after an introductory period.
To be safe, I contacted them to ascertain the date upon which the zero percent interest would no longer be valid. From the transcript of my on-line "chat": "Alex: The 0.00% will end on 08/11." That was good enough for me. I submitted their special "check" designated for that promotion. I used the money to pay down another (Discover) credit card.
In the first month they charged interest on the transferred amount. I wrote them a letter, complete with detailed documentation of their promises. Quoting their letter of reply: "Your letter indicated that you were offered a 0.0% introductory rate for check number 12922; however, we have confirmed the check, in the amount of $400.00, was correctly applied to the purchase segment of your account, which currently has an interest rate of 17.9%."
Huh? How is that "correctly applied?" I have obviously been scammed and no 0.0% was ever in the cards
