Country Financial Home Owners Insurance — Stay Away!

Stay away from Country Financial Insurance, especially the home owners insurance in Wisconsin!

When we bought our house last year, we were referred by our real estate agent (bad idea in hindsight) to go with Country Financial. They sent out a rep, took some photos, and promptly insured our home.

Flash forward about a year later and our house was hit with a huge hail storm. Almost every neighbor that we talked to were getting new roofs, new siding, etc. I was outside at the start of the hail when the hail was fairly small, but then within minutes of being inside, huge chunks started to fall down.

The next day after the storm, we went outside to look at the damage and visually saw lots of hail hits on our siding. It's super hard to tell if damage is done to the roof, so we figured the claims adjuster would be able to tell. Anyway, after calling to have an adjuster come out, he showed up at our house when we weren't there and later left us a voicemail saying that he saw zero damage.

We both visually saw a fair amount of hail hits so we called him back and he said he say hits but it didn't look consistent with the angle of the hail (?!?!?). We had a private roofer that looked at our house before we bought it come out and within minutes, the roofer said he could see lots of hits on the siding and some decent hits on the roof that should be super easy for anyone with any experience in this to see.

He took a bunch of photos and we e-mailed it to the claims adjuster who agreed to send out another claims adjuster later. After quite a long time of going back and forth, not getting phone calls returned, etc., one came out the same time as our roofer. The roofer walked him through everything, and at the end of the meetup, they both agreed that there was "some damage" to the roof that needed repair as well as damage to the siding.

The claims adjuster said that they'd get back to us later that day. A week later they finally called back and basically said they'd get back to us the next day. Almost another week later, they got back to us finally again and said that they'd repair only a drainage pipe and part of a garage door and partial roof for about $2,000 (the house itself is over $400,000 and has a very big roof)... Of course, there's a $1,000 deductible for that...

When we talked to the claims adjuster, he said that the hits on the siding wasn't "consistent" with the larger hits on the room and drainage pipe. He was claiming that there was no small hail in the storm (?!?!?! — we saw it ourselves!) and it was only larger hits that happened.

After more back and forth and pointing out how the siding has obvious hail damage (afterall, how can a garage door and drainage pipe get hit without the siding???), they said that we'd have to show proof that we had new siding (?!?!?!).

I said that I wasn't sure how new the siding was but knew it wasn't that old, but either way, I said that the insurance salesman through them took photos of our house (as did our original roofer when he inspected it before we bought the house) and any prior damage if any they should easily be able to see from that to see all the new damage.

Apparently their computer was slow and they left it at we had to send them proof that it was a new roof (what the hell?) and photos of the past siding would help too (isn't that what they took photos for before?) in order for them to even reconsider sending out a claims adjuster.

It's bluntly obvious to us that they have no problem lying and trying to screw over their customers. After first saying there was "zero damage or hits" when it was bluntly obvious that there were, and then agreeing next to the roofer that there was indeed several spots only to later retract that and say no, it's not an insurance company that you want to deal with.

They're horribly rude after they make the sale (but were super nice before), and it will literally take you months to get anywhere with them... Only for them to screw you over at the end. Their customer support basically gives you the run around so you can never truly talk to anyone to get anything solved.

Horrible company and I'll be doing a press release and talking to our lawyer unless they make a drastic change in their attitude and their fake assessment.
