O.K., I'll admit the error started with me, but it's really not my fault that part of my soc. Sec. Number is similar to another number I have memorized, so occasionally, I'll be off by 1 number. The IRS programs realize it, and they bounce it. But, since #1's mainframe only "Knows" me my the wrong number they can't correct it, because they've linked the account number to the form, even though I thought you were'nt supposed to use an Soc. Sec. Number for I.D. Purposes. Of course, I can't "Talk" to a real person to straighten it out, after posting 2 (unanswered after a week) questions to their customer service, because, as others have reported, there is no way to contact them through e-mail or telephone. So, I start the whole process again, with the correct soc. Sec. # and new password. Now, they won't recognize the new account, even though they let me transmit a corrected 1040 filing, they can't correct the old return, and two weeks later, my questions remain unanswered.
Now, I know it's probably sacrilege to most people, but God Bless the IRS, I used their refund checker to determine that they have indeed received my return from no-one, even though no-one can't confirm it, so I know not to refile with another service, which is my suggestion to all. They say, "Tanstaafl"-there ain't no such thing as a free lunch, but why does the IRS, again, God bless 'em, keep such companies on their list? Indeed, why not maintain their own system, and cut out the middle man, who is just trying to make a buck on other's ignorance? Why does the Federal Government sell advertising?
