Ripoff fees and account management difficulties

Dear A. Patrick Linton,

I hope you are able to help me with a problem I've encountered with FCNB Bank. The problem concerns the billing or payment at your bank.

I have been a loyal customer of FCNB for years. I ran into difficulties in Dec. 2000 when my wallet with my credit cards was stolen from my classroom. I did not have a current account number, was told I would not have a balance, and therefore did not make payments at that time. As a result, a small balance was owed, with late fees assessed and the credit limit dropped due to a supposed 'nonpayment' account status which was not the case. Thereafter this incident I made minimum payments and small charges over the months.

Shortly after your company decided to get out of the credit card business, I had difficulties. Payments were not posted, overlimit fees and late fees were assessed to where it is now impossible to make the minimum payment. Since the account is now closed, I do not believe that is acceptable, nor legal, to continue to assess interest charges. The original agreement that interest would be charged on purchases made with the privilege of being able to make future purchases is what I signed and agreed to uphold. Closing this account, and still charging interest, is not what I agreed to when I applied and accepted the account. I have contacted customer service regarding this matter and other payment issues. Records of previous phone calls no longer 'exist' yet charges continue to mount. The 'minimum' payment is now over $200 which I am not able to pay at one time. I do not agree with the current terms and do not appreciate the poor customer service that I have received from the various customer service reps each time I have called.

In the future I plan to take my business to other banks, and I'll urge others to avoid banking with you.

Here's the resolution I propose: Stop accumulating interest effective immediately.in addition, reducing the minimum payment to $50 and ceasing all over the limit fees immediately. Each payment that I have made in the amount of $50 is not covering the excessive fees assessed each month. I wrote and requested that the interest charges cease since the original creditor/creditee agreement has become null and void due to the recent account closure without my approval and/or notification.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter. I look forward to your prompt reply.

Sincerely
