I logged onto my account August 9, and found Bank of America had changed my name on my accounts without my permission! After 4 phone calls and an exchange of emails with customer service, it seems the only way they will change my name back is if I fill out a form, and bring SS card and ID to prove what my name is and always has been. Terrific! A customer service rep speculated on the phone that because my husband and I have joint accounts (have for the 7 years) but different last names, that "someone" decided I should have his last name. I guess B of A has a new policy of discriminating against women who don't take their husband's last names - and although they can change your name on whim, they won't fix their own mistakes anywhere near as easily.
