I am putting this up for all Camco victims. For well over a year I and others have been helping people with this scam company on a volunteer basis. There are a few things you need to know. Remember that in most states it is legal to collect on a debt but Camco breaks the laws trying.
1) It seems they are back in the BBB (although not the BBB care program as before) so when you make your complaints go to http://www.bbb.com and use their rockford, il address. IF any of you have followed their complaints you may notice how they seem to be disappearing at a rapid rate. I smell a rat.
2) They are under investigation with the FTC right now. When you make your complaints use the following link:

3) They now have over 260 complaints with the Illinois Attorney General. Do not forget to make your legitimate complaint here:

4) Make your complaint to your states attorney general also. You can find it by putting attorney general in the google search box.
Camco likes to use a couple of threats. The first thing they do is threaten your credit report. Negative information like bad credit cards or collections can only remain on your credit report for 7 years. Selling a debt does NOT restart the statute of limitations for reporting the debt. It is a violation of the FDCPA to even threaten such action.
Camco also likes to threaten you with a lawsuit. IT is ILLEGAL to even threaten a lawsuit much less sue on a time barred debt. (See Kimber v Federal Financial Corp). Camco collectors have recently been threatening criminal prosecution if you do not pay the debt. This is total horsecrap and is illegal to boot.
Camco employees have recently taken to calling your neighbors. They can only call to locate you. Once they have your address or phone number they CANNOT call your neighbors (although they will continue to do so. You need to have your neightbors testify in your behalf.
Just tell them a company is trying to scam you and apologize.
Finally, Camco collectors have been using threats of violence and one of their collectors who call himself 'bobby brown' is pretending to be an officer of the law. Big no no.
Camco is easy to get rid of because the federal government has their eye on them. What you need to do is simply send them a cease and desist letter ceritifed and/or faxed telling them never again to contact you by mail or phone.
Also remember that credit cards are considered open ended accounts and NOT written contracts. They will lie about this also or make up some supreme court rule that does not exist.
They especially like to abuse California residents. Camco only collects on time barred debts. If you receive a call from them then you will know from these postings that you owe them NOTHING. Here is a forum that can help you out with questions:

IF you get them on tape making illegal threats you can sue them. Right now there is a huge class action suit building out of Michigan but it covers other states.
This also involves criminal sanctions against Camco officers. Although it deals with many of their crimes it centers around their 'sworn affadavits' stating their debts are yours. Contact me on this report for details.
