I went to pay my Capital One balance this week and noticed that they had charged me a late fee of $39.00 with an additional finance fee of $14.91. Apparently, even though I made a payment for MORE than the minimum payment due, and I paid well in advance of the due date, Capital One thinks it's reasonable to charge me LATE fees.
When I contacted them alerting them to the mistake they proceeded to tell me that I must have either paid late and/or paid too little. I don't know if they're thick, or if they were deliberating pretending to not understand my complaint.
I contacted them again explainging that if they don't believe me they should look at my payment record to confirm my claims. I paid more than I owed and I paid early. The person who contacted me then proceeded to tell me that since I had paid TOO EARLY that they applied the money to the month before thereby making me late for the current month.
How early did I pay? Apparently 3 days too early. I paid on November 2 for the month of November and I guess if I want to pay for November I can't pay before the 5th.
We're disputing 3 days... 3 days early NOT late. Seriously? They refuse to refund the late fee and finance charges that together nearly equal $55. I've never heard of a company charging someone for paying a bill too early!
I'm dropping this bank. They deserve to fail. You can't ripoff and steal from your clients and expect no one to get mad about it.
