Bank of America
Overdraft scam, lies

Yes, I too have been scammed by Bank of "America"
I needed to make a transaction that day, but was uncertain about what I had left in my account. I went in person to the bank, explained the situation, and was assured that I had more than enough in the bank to cover what I wanted to do. I again questioned the teller asking her if she was also taking into account my last purchase which had been to Borders. She said yes, the Borders purchase was showing and had been taken into account. I deposited extra cash into the account, just to be safe and happily then used my debit card for paying a bill that I could have paid via other means.
Wow, was I amazed when I then received a charge for an overdraft!

I went back to the bank and asked how that was possible. This time I had a different teller and there were no supervisors around. She explained to me that the money I had deposited that day was not considered in the bank until the next day - even tho I had been told otherwise. She then also explained that BOA only charges your account $1 for transactions that haven't gone thru yet. So that purchase at Borders that I'd made several days ago - the one the teller told me was being taken into account - they were only "taking into account" one dollar of it! But then when I used my debit card to pay a bill, they suddenly had the right to take into account the full amount - even tho the transaction still had not gone thru! The teller secretly told me that unless you worked at the bank or kept very strict banking records, you would never have any real way of knowing what was in your account - even if you, as I did, went into the bank in person to inquire what your balance was. What a scam!

In addition, a very short time later I took my dog to the vets and authorized payment for a set amount. This amount was confirmed via the phone with both the vet and his receptionist (Fords Prarie Animal Clinic, Centralia, Washington). However, they decided to tack on additional expenses to the tune of another $100 without calling me or asking permission. Also, they did not do what they had been paid to do and returned my dog covered in urine and feces - and by the way, I am a veterinarian myself. At first I tried to work things out with them - but they refused to discuss it, saying they could charge me whatever they #*!! Wanted wether I had OKed the charges or not. The veterinarian also told me that since my dog was injured and just laying in her cage all day, how could I not expect her to be covered in feces and urine. Now as a veterinarian, I have more respect for my own clients than to speak like that, and also, I make sure that my patients are kept CLEAN and DRY.
Also, at least in my state, tacking on extra charges is considered illegal. So I called BOA and explained the situation and was assured that they would stop payment. I told BOA I was ok paying for the amount I had authorized to be charged on my debit card since that was my stupidity to authorize it befor seeing my dog - but not a penny more - especially in light of the poor care they took of my dog. BOA assured me the matter would be taken care of. Later I find that I have been charged the full amount - even tho supposidly they had stopped payment. I called up and said "what the heck is going on?" and they said "well, you know it's just your word against theirs. We can still undo this payment, but you'll need to get another veterinarian to collaborate your story" WHAT? I did NOT authorize those extra added fees. I did not sign anything saying I would pay a single cent more than we had agreed. Why do I need another vet to collaborate my story? I am a veterinarian!

After that, I pulled all of my money out of BOA and will never use them again. They are just as bad as Bernie Madoff in my opinion. Do not use this bank. They will scam you out of every cent they can, and they will never be in your corner.
