We received a letter from a company called SmartModification stating they would help us modify our existing mortgages. They told us not to pay our mortgage while we were going through this process. We were told that the success rate was 96% and we were great candidates for the modification.
Our first mortgage modification request was denied. We were notified by the mortgage company, not SmartModification. Our senior mitigation consultant, Kurt Smith, said we needed to resubmit new bank statements and profit and loss statements.in the meantime, we received the Making Home Affordable paperwork from our mortgage company. Kurt said he would complete the paperwork and resubmit. Eight days to the deadline, we called in and asked what was happening. We ended up sending the paperwork in ourselves.
We received foreclosure letters and the people at SmartModification told us not to worry - we could not be foreclosed on. We ended up petitioning the court the day we were to be foreclosed on to stop it. Nothing has happened with our second mortgage. Anything that has been done has been done by us. SmartModification took $2499 from us and then did NOTHING!!!
Now we cannot reach SmartModification - there is a constant busy signal. I have tried all the phone numbers we were given and nothing works. All emails are returned undeliverable.
