I received a letter and check in the mail from a company called Data-Matique located in Ontario Canada. This letter claimed I had won $215,000.00 in an International Shopping Sweepstakes Lottery held on May 22nd. The participants were selected randomly from over 100,000 names. It did not say how I had been entered in the first place.
They sent me a check for $4,850.00 to "enable me to pay for the applicable winning taxes on my winning of $215,000.00." These taxes would amount to $2,850.00, paid via Western Union directly to my assigned tax agent.
I was to call a Mr. Steve O'Brien first for further instructions. Then I could deposit my check and then send him the 2,850.00.
This letter was signed by Mikail Swaltz (Promotion Manager).
Unfortunately, Data-Matique does exist as a real company, in Texas, who most likely has nothing to do with this scam.
