Compass Bank
Is this legal? Ripoff

Recently I have had some issues with Compass Bank. Obviously, I am not alone. I had used my atm card to withdrawl money from my checking account. This account belongs to myself, as a single account holder.instead, I pushed the transfer button.

Instead of withdrawing money, it was transfered to a closed savings account. My joint savings account was CLOSED. After speaking to many customer service representatives, I was told this should not have been possible, being that the account had been closed. I was persistant in finding where my $200.00 had gone. After speaking to the branch manager, I was told MY $200.00 originally from MY account was applied to someone elses' checking account.

The money NEVER posted to the closed savings account. It was sent directly to pay someone else's debts. I was told I need to take it up with him in order to get MY money back. Please tell me legally how I should be accountable for someone, especially since we were never married. My $200.00 from my checking account was sent directly to his checking account with only his name on his account. Of course, being upset I closed my checking account.

I went into the branch and withdrew the money. The next day I was charged a $24.00 service fee for checking my account over the alloted 15 times a month. I had called in excess, because I was curious if my money would be posted back to my account. They charged me a $38.00 NSF fee because I had withdrew my money, and what I thought closed the account.

Then 6 days later I was charged another $38.00 because I did not put any more money into, what I thought was a closed account. Another 6 days later I was charged another $38.00. I have called branch after branch and e-mailed them. No one is able to help me. I now have an account with a balance of -138.00, and a lost $200.00 that could have helped pay a bill. I am a single mother of 2 young children, living paycheck to paycheck. Free checking, my as*??
