Capital One Bank
Stole $140.00 from my checking account which I have since closed

On June 10th, I realized that I had insufficient funds to cover an electronic withdrawal for a bank note at Capital One Bank ($131.21). I had a lot going on in my life (a death in the family, a sister newly diagnosed with cancer). This has never happened in the two and a half years that I have had the loan—never once. I had a friend (I was at work) bring money to the bank sufficient to cover the loan which was due to be automatically drawn on Thursday, June 11. I did not realize the cutoff was 3:00 P.M. For deposits (this bank bought out my bank, Hibernia and actually, I should have become more familiar, but there was never any need to know their cutoff time before). He got to a branch of the bank about 2:30 in the afternoon, however the young teller did not understand what he wanted to do and wasted a lot of time depositing the cash (it was cash) and it was not deposited until 3:24 P.M. This cause me to overdraft on some small debit card purchases to the tune of four at $35.00 each ($140.00). I live paycheck to paycheck and was horrified to say the least. I went to my branch and explained exactly what happened and the stress I had been under to cause me to forget that it was due and I could not help but wonder why the young teller did not tell my friend that he could stand on his head and whistle Dixie and the deposit would not be credited until twenty-four hours later since she had caused the deposit to go in late (3:24). He said the branch manager was out and there was nothing he could do. I immediately closed my account and have since begun to pay the loan off (545.00 left on it). Also, since I no longer have a checking acount with them to deduct the payment from they increased my loan interest from 17.75% to 18% as is their prerogative according to the terms of our loan agreement.

Anyway, I am now a proud patron of Rxx Rxxx Bank of Pineville, Louisiana.in the meantime I did some research on this bank and was horrified to see what they have done to their credit card customers (screwing them to pay off their bailout money—the money they needed to cover the debt of their non-paying customers—unwise loans). I intend to have a bumper sticker printed saying "Honk if you hate Capital One Bank" if it is legal to do so (and I have never sported a bumper sticker for any reasonin my entire life).in a postscript the manager of my (former) branch eventually called me and was so sweet if I had been a diabetic I would have gone into a coma just listening to him. They were hoping that returning my $140.00 would end my campaign, but it has had exactly the opposite effect as intended and I am more rabidly against them than ever. Keep it up people who have been ripped off by this so-called banking institution. Remember "The squeeky wheel gets the grease"!! Thanks for reading.
