Bank Of America
Closed credit card account

I have had a VISA credit card with Bank of America since 1982. I have never been late on a payment. I usually pay my credit card in full every month. I had a $20,000 credit limit on my card.

My wife has some serious credit issues. Unbeknownst to me, she had several credit cards which she had maxed out. My name is on two of these accounts. My wife enrolled in a debt settlement program, Credit Solutions, in an attempt to get back on track financially. Credit Solutions instructs their clients to stop paying their credit card bills as this gives Credit Solutions more leverage when trying to negotiate a debt settlement. When I found out about all of this, I went to Bank of America to have my wife's name removed from the VISA account. There is no way I wanted her to have access to a $20,000 credit limit. I was told that in order to do this, we (both my wife and I) would have to fill out some sort of form. I was assured that I didn't have to close and reopen an account. Well, we never got the "something" to sign. I received a letter from BofA closing my account. Upon receiving the letter, I immediately called the credit analyst, Scott Beech, and told him my story. He kept me on hold for quite a long time and then came back and informed me that not only would BofA not give me a credit card, I would not be able to get a loan or another credit card for a very long time. I again explained that I was trying to do the right thing. I never ever charged anything on her cards. I didn't even know they existed. I have been a customer in good standing with Bank of America since 1977 when I opened my checking account. We have our mortgage with Bank of America which is ALWAYS paid on time. I now do not have a credit card. The VISA card was the only card I used and I was always 100% responsible as far paying my bills on time. Bank of America said that they carefully reviewed my case (BULL). What they did was punish me for doing the right thing. For them to say they carefully reviewed my case and every effort has been made to approve my request is a pack of lies. They did nothing. They took a customer in good standing who was doing the right thing for BofA as well as myself and punished me for it.

I do not excuse my wife in any way for her part. As a matter of fact, our marriage is in serious trouble. I feel betrayed not only by her but by the financial institution that I have belonged to since 1977.
