Today I noticed an unauthorized charge to my Bank of America (BOFA) online bank account on April 1 in the amount of $20.90. This unknown company also charged my BOFA checking account in the same amount on the following nine previous dates:
March 2
February 3
January 6
December 2
November 3
October 1
September 3
August 1
July 1
In other words, my BOFA checking account has been electronically debited a total of $209.00 in unauthorized charges between July 1 and April 1.
Earlier today I called BOFA about this, and the customer service representative I spoke with was not able to tell me the identity of this company! The BOFA representative was willing to reverse some of the charges, going back only six months. I want ALL of the charges reversed, and will continue to pursue this with BOFA and my state attorney general's consumer protection division.
I searched the internet, and located these web page that describe similar problems other people have had with their BOFA accounts charged by this unknown company:
I recall receiving a call from a telemarketer several months ago offering me a free introductory offer on some type of insurance, but I adamantly refused this offer as I buy various types of insurance through my employer, and it is my policy not to buy anything from telemarketers. I was very surprised to even receive this call, because telemarketing has been illegal for several years.
If I can find out the identify of the company that dinged my BOFA account without my permission, I'll file and updated complaint.
Readers my wonder why it took me so long to discover this was happening. Part of the reason is that I became legally blind for several months last year. I I underwent two eye operations, but my vision wasn't restored until early 2009. During this time I wasn't able to track my bills as closely as I should have.
