Portfoilio recovery asso. Refusing to let me make payments after one year of timely payments? Now they want to increase payments!

Hello, a year ago I opened a credit card (first one) I am a 24 year old young lady. I was late one month by a day and it just increased and needless to say I turned into a monster i couldnt control, it was sold to a collection agency called Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC. I never got one call telling me I needed to get in contact with them, about my credit card bill.
One day i check my mail and there is a district court paper saying there planning to sue me if I dont contact them to pay, so i did. This was one year ago when i called I told them hey I have no problem paying this it was for 1286.00, my original plan was to get income tax and pay it in full, so it wouldnt go on my credit, i didnt get that far. I told them in my situation because I just had a baby and i mean 2 days before I just got outof the hospital my fiance would be paying this for me out of his checking out and since he was the only one working i could afford maybe 100.00 extra a month. So i said i would pay 20.00 electronically from my checking account every friday. This was working out great, and i thought they were very nice people untill 3 months ago, I stopped receiving written receipts in the mail from them so i call about 6 times in a 2 week period to tell them if i didnt receive a recept i would put a freeze on my account so they couldnt get anymore money because i didnt know if they were taking it off my balance.
They said after one year im suppose to call back to tell them i want to contine with my payments and i never called so i am three months behind! The whole time im thinking im almost done it was suppose to be paid off in a year and a half exactly. I owe 536.00 now and they said because im so close to paying it off there going to need me to send in 40.00 a week now and not 20.00 a week! I cannot afford that at all! I have no income i stay at home with my babies they are to small for me to work. So i said to them i thought in the begining when i set these payments up i was told to pay 80.00 a month and it was told to me that it would be done in a year and a half she says to me, ha uh no, thats change who do you think we are? We aint gonna make any payments last that long cause someone is poor. My feelings were very hurt and i was shocked so i said to her well fine i'll just ignore this then, and i wont send another dime i was calling out of the kindness of my heart. She laughed and said oh no you didnt, i could care a less who you pay why did you even call!
Then i asked to speak to the supervisor and she said she was the supervisor. I said so your telling me your refusing to let me pay on my account? She said yep. Your goign to pay 40.00 a week or you can see us in court. Please keep in mind i have to put this nice because of rip off reports conduct agreement or else i could really say what they said to me, i dont know what to do now. All i can say is im going to send them a check that has been photocopied and it will be only what i can afford and i am goign to certify mail it. If they return it, I will send it again and again. And i am hoping they sue me so i can have my day in court to explain to the judge what they doing to me. They need something done with them they shouldnt be treating people like this. Worst of all they think its funny to humilate you.
