Wells Fargo Card Services
The "it's not my fault" bank

I am writing this letter in regards to my WF account and the transactions that transpired on 1/8/09. On this date, my account was at 59 days past due and I made a payment on this day to ensure that the account remained opened as I was told at 60 days the account would be closed. The payment of $859 came from another financial institution, PNC Bank. Apparently, the account number was written down incorrectly from your Wells Fargo rep and the payment was bounced back. I realized this as I was monitoring both accounts over the next week to make sure that the funds were transferred.

After a week, I realized that there was no transfer of funds and then called to find out what the problem was. I spoke with a young woman who told me that this happens all the time and that I should just make a payment form the Wells Fargo account, which I was not going to do since I needed the funds in my WF as they were allocated for something else. I reconfirmed the account number and was told that it was written down incorrectly by the Wells Fargo representative. The question is Why am I being penalized for Wells Fargo processing error?

My question to her was if I could have the account reopened since the original payment that was supposed to be scheduled was made on the 59th day past due date. I was told that I would have to petition for this and she would send in a request and I would find out in a few days (on a side note, this rep made me feel like I was bothering her, but I can understand). After not receiving a phone call, I called back to find out the status and was told that there was no petition sent in. I then requested this petition to be sent to a supervisor level again and told I would hear from someone the by the end of the week. Nothing. I then called back for the 3rd time to find out the status and found out it was denied.

The reasons given were that there were multiple late payments made previously and the Experian FICO score was below 500. I understand the reasoning, however my contestation is that the account never should have been closed in the first place since my payment was meant to be made on 1/8, the 59th day past due on the account. If that payment goes through, then the account is never closed, kept open, and not affecting my credit with a closed' account. Also, I checked with Experian and the score that I was told my credit was (450 range) was actually completely incorrect and off by 100 points when I checked with the same company within a week.

With the current stage of today's credit market, I find this an example of how your bank is not willing to work with me. Frankly, I am a profitable customer for you, have direct deposit, have my checking/savings with you (for almost 9 years) and do not feel that the way I have been treated has been proper. I urge you to reconsider this account to be re-opened. Again, I have no intention of using the account, but would like it open to strengthen my credit.
