Help!!! In January 09 I started receving letters and calls from Portfolio Recovery about an outstanding balance of $4491.63 to Chevy Chase they claimed to have brought the debt from Chevy Chase in 2004.in 1999 I had a car reposessed and the balance was 2900.00. I made a payment to them because I knew that I owed money for the reposession but not to Chevy Chase. After making that payment I started questioning this collection. The debt was removed from my credit report about 3-4 years ago because it had reached its 7yr reporting limit. Can I do anything about this now or is it too late for me?
The second incident is. Today (2/25/09), I received a letter from National Recovery Agency alleging that I owe $52.89 them; the letter says West Bay Aquistions has purchased this account from Black Expression (a book company) on 3/29/05. I do not have an outstanding balance with this company. What makes it even more suspicous is that I am a current member in good standing with this book company. I just became a member in 2008 and I don't have a outstanding balance. What should I do?
