My son who is mentally disabled was sent a Tribute card, which he viewed as free money and promptly maxed out the card, which wasn't hard, cause most of the credit limit is taken up by the fees they charge.
I've been trying to make a payment plan with them for several months but get no where. I am told there are no payment plans that apply to him. I've told them we are willing to pay $20 a month if they will lower the interest rate and stop the late fees and over limit fees. He's over the limit because of the fees.
I keep telling them they can get some money to pay this debt, do they want it or not, and they keep saying they will not offer a payment plan. Not once has anyone asked for verification of who I am, or if I'm allowed to speak on my son's behalf!
They have flat out lied, one person tells me they need $57, another says $27, the next day it's $87, then back to $27. I told them that since they lie, I need something in writing that says what they will lower the interest rate to, and how much they are taking off the account for fees, once we get that, we can start making payments. All I get is they can't do that. I ask to speak to someone who can make those decisions, they don't have anyone.
The only payment plan they have is that they will re-open his account, give him a new credit limit if he makes a payment. Why in God's name would we want to re-open his account?
So now I tell them when they call, we can make a payment of $20/month if you fax or send me a statement saying you will lower the interest rate, and get rid of the fees - do you want it or not?"We can't do that" Then goodbye, don't call me until you can do that.
I would really like to sue these people, what they are doing can't be legal. They gave a credit card to someone without a verifiable income, that's not legal is it?
