My husband had a credit card with Juniper.
One month they attatched a late fee of $39 because the minimum payment was 5 cents more than I had sent them. We hadn't made any purchases on this account for several months and were trying to pay it off. We had never been late before, never been over limit and most of the time paid more than the minimum payment. Also, I always sent the payment the first of the month even though it wasn't due until around the 20th so they held the payment over until it was late!
When my husband called and talk to them about this, they said they would wave the late fee but instead, they charged us a second late fee the next month and the person he spoke to said he didn't care what we were told, they would not wave the late fee.
They also trippled our APR for no reason making it 28%. This was for a card that we weren't even using.
They also refused to work with our debt management people when I ended up with an $11,000 hospital bill for which I had no insurance.
I sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission.
Since that time, Barclay's has lowered our interest to 24% but this is still outrageous especially for an account that has been closed for over a year.
