I filed my taxes with turbo tax as I have for years. I am a Realtor and financially really hurting right now. My home is in foreclosure, I can't seem to find a job. I still owed from my 2005 taxes, but have paid over half of the amount owed. I called the Taxpayer Advocate's Office of the IRS and they agreed to look at my case for a hardship. They did tell me to hurry up and file my (I had filed an extension). So, I did. I used turbo tax. I did not have the money to even file my taxes so thinking that they would grant me the hardship and I would get my return I opted to have the cost of filing through turbo tax taken out of my refund.
Next I receive a letter from the Taxpayer's Advocate office. They inform me that since I entered into a contract with Santa Barbara Bank & Trust for a refund anticipation loan, although they were willing to work with me they now would not work with me. I thought I must be going mad as I did not apply for a refund anticipation loan! I called the IRS, Santa Barbara Bank & Trust and Turbo Tax. SBBT said, no it wasn't a refund anticipation loan, and said they would send me a letter to give to the IRS. The letter they sent to me said that they still had not received the money from the IRS for my refund so my account was still in a null status. That was it. I have tried for days talking to someone, explaining everything to them.
Unfortunately they won't budge. They said that is all they can do. So i am warning everyone out there. Be careful when you use turbo tax, it just might get you into trouble with the irs or sbbt!
