My son went to Office Depot to purchase a new laptop computer here in Hawaii (where we have resided for over 40 years). He had just opened a new checking account (@40 days old) and had MORE THAN SUFFICIENT FUNDS in the account to cover the check. He was declined by the store (via Telecheck) for no reason. When we called the 800 number provided, all we could get was an automated voice stating if we wanted additional info we would have to write to a PO Box in Houston with checking account info, driver's license number and social security number. THEN they would send us a letter stating why they declined the check.
The clerk asked my son if he had a debit card (for the same account-which he did) and the transfer went through smooth. She also said that they have "problems" with Telecheck all the time and most of the declines are "bogus". However since Office Depot is a national chain, they are stuck with the service.
NOW... With all the mail fraud and ID theft, would you mail your "life" to a PO Box in Houston?
When I spoke to my bank this morning, they informed me that they have "dumped" Telecheck from their services for the main reason as they have had too many "bougus" problems with them.
Who does this company think they are??? SOMEONE needs to file a class action suit against them as well as have a "real live" person to talk to about this.
Thanks for letting me vent... Will be pursuing this with the Hawaii State Attorney General's office.
