Was going to buy a birthday present from a local store (Atwood's in Lawton, Ok) where I've written checks for years and was declined by telecheck. The check was for $22 and I knew, from checking my account online that I had more than ample funds in my account. Upon calling the number to see what the problem was I was informed that a check, written on a Puerto Rican bank, written in a Puerto Rican Walmart with my DL# for over $500, had bounced. The name, address and all other info was not mine, only the DL# but it matched the DL# given by the check out clerk so it flagged my check. Telecheck informed me that it would be up to me to resolve this by changing my DL# and furnishing them with a police report but they could not tell me if or how long it would be before I could write checks at any of their locations in the future. Upon discussing this problem with Lawton Atwood's they assure me that telecheck saves them more money preventing fraudulent check writing than it loses them in erroneously targeted customers. So this is the New World Order.
