I visited Office Depot today. I spend over 10,000 dollars there a year with my business. I do not have a debit card for one of my two companies and thus used a business check. I have been in business for 8 years, have an excellent credit report and have NEVER bounced a check in my business.
Office Depot's recently contracted service, Telecheck declined my check. I have no idea what code it was, however after hours of trying to get an answer as to why they declined my check, I was told it was because I have "insufficient history with telecheck merchants".
This was an embarassing and harmful experience to my small business. There was NO valid reason for them to decline the check. And "Fernando" could not explain to me how, pray tell, I was supposed to get "history" with Telecheck merchants if they would not accept the check. I write over 50 checks a month to my vendors to pay bills.
It amazes me that Telecheck can get away with this type of unfair business practice. And, it seems to me to be some sort of racket... Telling me, I must do business with those merchants who use Telecheck in order to gain "history"?? And, if I have been using Office Depot for 8 years, why is this not "history"?
I am in touch with Office Depot Corporate offices and I am sure I will get no where but I have to try on behalf of all small businesses.
