I made a purchase over the telephone from a company located in New York and used Fifth Third Visa. I had no way of knowing where the New York company's credit cards were processed. They were processed out of the country.
Fifth Third charged a $12.24 International processing fee even though the company was in New York and I was in Indiana.
Chase Visa did not charge me a fee when I used their card with the same company.
Fifth Third refused to waive the fee even though I have been a customer for over 25 years. How can you protect yourself when you have no way of knowing where your credit card is processed?
Fifth Third has some of their customer service in India. Does that make them a foreign bank?
