Offered to save me $2,500 in credit card interest in a year or my money back

Telephonic BAIT and SWITCH

The February 4 telephone call BAIT: For a mere $690.00 DIA Group will get my credit card interest lowered and save me at least $2,500 in credit card interest in the year following my purchase. They would send me paperwork to fill out describing each credit card (issuer, account number, secret code, expiration date, SSN and billing address of the name on the card). The customer has a 3-day cooling off period and, in addition, may cancel without penalty within 10 days of receipt of the paperwork. To this old retiree, it sounded like a good deal until the wife explained that there is no way we would incur $2,500 in credit card interest in the year nor even $690.00 since we pay less than $5.00 per month because all our credit cards have an interest rate lower than 3% APR. I called and canceled the next day.

I got another call and the caller urged me to reconsider and at least wait until the paperwork arrived as it was in the mail. I did not agree to reconsider. When the paperwork arrived, it was the product of a copying machine and the original had been fed off center so about an inch was missing from the left side. I called and was told another set would be sent. The second set arrived, identical to the first. I called and reiterated my cancellation and explained that there was no way they could save me $2,500.00 in credit card interest in a year as I paid less than $5.00 per month.

The SWITCH: the ten days after receipt of the paperwork was not a time within which cancellation could be done without penalty. They would refund me $491.00 if I "agreed" to a "restocking fee" of $199.00; if I did not agree, I would get no refund at all. They would send me a paper to sign "agreeing" to the "restocking fee" and gave me a telephone number where I could fax it back. Multiple attempts to fax it to the number I was given were unavailing. Finally, I searched out their web page and got another fax number, re-faxed my "agreement" on April 26 and that worked.
