In March of I received an offer from Providian/Washington Mutual to do a balance transfer for 1.99% APR that would remain that until September. I asked a lot of questions to make sure this was a legitimate offer. I was repeatedly assured that this would stay my interest rate until the program ended.
Today I tried to review my account on line only to find that the Providian address no longer worked and the contact information they gave was faulty. The phone numbers were dead. I called WaMu and got the runaround from them but eventually did get the WaMu web address and went to it.
Once i was on the WaMu site, I found that they had charged me interest twice last month. I called them to report the mistake only to be informed that one interest was for the balance transfer and the other interest was for all transactions after that. I expressed my confusion about this and was told that while my balance transfer was at 1.99% APR, all other transactions with them have been at 19.9% APR. I expressed my deep dissatisfaction with them because I had asked all kinds of questions about had NEVER been told that the APR was only on the balance transfer. They would do nothing for me!
I have another card with CapitalOne at a much lower interest rate and immediately transferred the balance to them. As soon as I know this account is at a zero balance, I will close it.
