I switched CC processing from paypal to UMS a few months ago. Their rep tells me that they can beat paypal prices, especially considering I'm only requiring a "Virtual Terminal" for online credit card sales. He tells me the fee is $17.99 a month, plus $4.99 for the use of the terminal, and another $4.95 a month for American Express. Since this was cheaper than paypal, I agreed.
It was a lie. First month I'm charged, around $42. Their rep had told me that I should expect a setup charge, on my first statement, so I figured this was it. Days later I get stuff in the mail from American Express, and tell them in a subsequent phone call that I had told UMS I was not interested in their services.
Weeks later, I get more stuff from American Express... Saying I was signed up, and charging me all these fees. I called them again, and told them again I wasn't interested in accepting American Express.
Then the next day, I check my checking account, and from UMS is an ACH draft for $111.77. I called my bank who gives me the number for another bank, who gives me the number for another bank, until I finally get somebody from UMS. This woman tells me that February is the month they charge the $69.99 annual fee (a fee I was never told about), and that I'm being charged an additional $20 a month for processing under the amount I agreed to, which I was never told about either.
I feel totally cheated by this company. They lied to me, got me to sign a contract quickly, without fully reading the small print, and now claim I have to pay over $200 as an early termination fee to stop their services. I've since filed a complaint with the BBB, and would with the Attorney General's office, but the Ohio AG doesn't investigate Business / Business complaints.
Avoid these cheats, swindlers, liars at all costs. Paypal and other verifiers are much cheaper, and don't hide their fees behind a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo in microscopic print.
