I Don't Trust AmeriTrust

I received a call today from Ameritrust Financial trying to sell me a credit card with a credit line of $2000.00, yet the clincher is I must pay a $200.00 processing fee. I fell for it, as I had just woke up, and it sounded too good to be true. After I got on with my day, I started thinking something wasn't right about it, so I checked online at the Better Business Bureau. Come to find out, Ameritrust isn't even accredited with the BBB, and there are at least 281 complaints for faulty selling practices. I am angry.

I just got back from my bank, and closed my account for fear of Ameritrust jacking me and my bank account around. The bank rep told me I could put a stop on it yet Ameritrust could try to ACH Debit my bank account whenever they felt like it if it didn't go through the first time. I feel safer now, but I alreayd gave them my information, my ssn, dob, routing and account number. Unbelievable these people are.

Ameritrust is shady to say the least, because after they give you a confirmation number to infer to the consumer that the transaction is legit, they tell us that we have 3 days to cancel. I tried to call and cancel with the phone number the Ameri-I-Don't-Trust rep gave me before I went to the bank, but she said I have to write, and as long as it is postmarked in this 3 days period, I am good. Right.

I kept stopping the fast-talking Ameritrust rep to ask questions and explain a few things to me, but she would get all flustered. Consumers like myself have a right to know what they are getting into, yes? I asked her if the card beared a Mastercard or Visa label, and the Ameritrust rep didn't really answer me. I am insulted this company thinks the consumer is that stupid.

I also asked the Ameritrust rep if I could spend it anywhere I want, and she threw in the provision that I can order a catalog from their website. What a bunch of you know what. Thank God I closed my bank account.

It is odd a credit card company would ask for $200.00 upfront, and most credit card companies are not crazy enough to give the consumer a $2000.00 credit limit right from the get-go, because they know people would run with it. I would.
