I was contacted via letter from this collection company to notify me that I owed $87 on a Verizon bill from my college apartment. I graduated and moved from that town and did not even reside there during the billing period in question. This is the first time I have ever heard of this debt and I'm appaled that this company is threatening to collect on it or turn my name in to the credit agencies.
When I called to discuss what I thought was obviously a mistake, they were extremely rude, notifying me that "debt doesn't just go away". They stated that I would need to provide them with proof that I didn't reside in that town... I offered a copy of my college degree, showing that I graduated in Decemeber (the bill is from Dec. - June) and they stated that they would need something, such as an envelope, to prove that I was in a different residence. When I notified the representative that I wasn't in the habit of keeping records, let alone envelopes for eleven years she simply said I should pay the bill.
Unbelievable - I wrote them a letter and have NO intention of being scammed by this agency.
