I had 3 credit cards and one got lost. I called to have it replaced. The rep gave me a hassle about sending it to a P.O. Box, but they all had come to my box. I got tired of arguing with him and said cancel the card.
Later I noticed the interest rate was about 5% higher. They claimed it had always been that way. The rep suggested I combine the card with one of my other ones. I said fine. She came back and said it couldn't be done because the account was cancelled, but there was still $7 & some change left on it. If I would charge something to it it would be reactivated and I could combine the cards.
I charged exactly $7 to the card. I got a statement that said it was over the limit. I called to inquire as to how that happened. They said because of the annual fee being charged to the card. I objected because it was supposed to have been combined with my other card. This had not been done. The rep said he would credit me for the over limit fee and annual fee and combine the cards.
Now I have a post card saying the cards could not be combined because the one that had been cancelled was in collections, and additional fees had accumulated to over $130. The fees that were supposed to have been credited were still there, plus late fees and the interest had been raised to 28%.
I called & talked to a supervisor who tried to make it out to be my fault because I had not made a payment in almost 3 months, and I should have known by my statement that the cards had not been combined. During all those phone calls no one had ever said a payment was late or about to go to collections, but this was all due to MY misunderstanding.
