My house aNorth Providence, RI was built by my father in 1950, and in February I had strangers on my lawn snatching it away.By July I had to pack all my bags and at the age of 60 I was tossed into the street after having major back surgery.
My husband a retired Providence Police Officer of 30 years and myself a Medical Technologist of 30 years worked so hard to raise our family provide a home all for Ameriquest to decieve lie and take my home away from me.
Ameriquest remortgaged my home in 2003.
As a result we became one of thousands of people who were subject to preditory lending. Ameriquest then offered to remodify our loan for us. Big mistake. A representative by the name of Tiffany from Orange County Californa instructed my husband and I to fill them out and fax them back asap. We did this; many many times. Everytime I faxed it over I would call Tiffany, and try to make sure she recieved the paperwork. It never happened.tiffany never answered her phone. When Tiffany did answer she would say "I'll resend you the papers", and that everything was fine. She reiterated that we were NOT going to loose our house! In December I was scheduled to go into surgery for my back. I didnt want to go because I was so worried. When I asked Tiffany if everything was ok, she said it was ok, "go have surgery, you arent loosing your home."
After I got out of the hospital, I was home recuperating and still trying to resolve the situation with my home.
Tiffany stopped taking my husbands calls and my calls. We left so many messages. We tried talking to other reps. They kept telling us they had to check with Tiffany and they would get back to us.
They did not, of course.
Unfortunatly, early on the morning of February 22 three gentlemen were standing on my lawn. My husband and I confronted them. They let us know that they were bidding on our home. My home was being taken and there was nothing we could do! I felt so helpless. My daughter and my husband ended up going to court to find out when we had to move. The judge told Ameriquest that we had until July to stay in our home. July we were out. My husband, myself and my daughter had to get out. We packed our things and moved.
Its been a year now. My family and I do not understand why there hasnt been a class action lawsuit in Rhode Island.
We know there are other families who have gone through this terrible experience. We do know there are lawsuits against Ameriquest in 49 states. Minnesota has settled their lawsuit.
Ironically we recieved a letter stating that we are eligable to recieve a restitution check in the amount of $773.00 for all we have been through. Let me say this, money will never ever bring peace to my family and I, but what a slap in the face it was to recieve a letter that stated thats what our pain and suffering was worth. My families health has detiorated severly within the last year. I cant honestly believe that Ameriquest has gotten away with this..
