I just received a letter from another unknown bank that has taken over an interest free debt and provides a MasterCard. Originally, this offer was provided to me for a loan I owed as a way to repay it and offer credit at the same time and was initally offered by Capital One. A year later, they sold it to Monterey County Bank (another unknown bank) and now they are selling it off to WebBank
"Bankcard Services" In Beaverton, OR is still retaining the cards, but a new bank is involved. The only addresses listed were PO boxes and no physical corporate addresses. When I called to speak with a representative, she refused to help me and the manager refused to take my call. I was finally able to give them enough information for them to verify my account information from the old information (I do not have a new card yet), but refused to give them my entire account number of my present credit card with Monterey County Bank (I don't even know who these people are... Maybe they are Phishing???)
After verifying that I was an account holder being transferred from the old bank, I finally had the opportunity to speak with a manager named Brent, who was unable to provide me with Public Record information as to the Physical Address of WebBank Corporate Headquarters. This information should be available to anyone who asks for it.
I did find a WebBank listed above with the same name for President and CEO, Gerry Smith, and I ASSUME (we know what that means) this is the same bank.
Has anyone heard anything about these people? Are the legit? Are they the next no good bank that can't properly post payments? Can't update website information properly? So small time they won't accept electronic payments from my bill pay service and my bank has to mail them a check? Try to charge hugh fees for the "PRIVLEDGE" of making a website payment?
Any information anyone has would be welcome. I need to know what I am dealing with before these uncooperative jerks get my account.
