I opened a checking account the beginning of May, to use to pay rent.
I had a TCF account 3 years ago but due to an employer paying me in bounched checks, well my checks bounced. We got it cleared up (or so I thought) and closed the account. So I opened the new account, put over $1000.00 in it (my rent is $1000.00) and wrote the check to the landlord.
My wife calls me at work a couple days later telling me TCF left a messsage that they kept the money in my account for "past fees" and closed the account, they said they'd send a letter and a check if "anything was left over"
Well, guess who got a call from the Landlord a few days later telling me the check had bounced? So now we have to scrimp to get together ANOTHER $1000.00 AND make the June rent on time. We actually had to go to a food shelf to get groceries toy try to do this, we are still far behind and now face eviction.
I understand if there were still fees, but when I OPENED the account I should have been told, I would have got a money order for my Landlord and worked things out with TCF, but insted like a crook the steal my rent money and put my family at risk. I"m a working guy I don't have an extra $1000.00 to give my landlord.
I will make sure everyone knows how TCF does buisness, and make sure firends and family do buisness elsewhere.
