OSI is the worst. Back in 2005 I had an account go into collections (totally my fault). I was able to pull together eneough money to make one settlement payment. I sent the check to OSI and actually even received a confirmation letter from them saying that they and the creditor agreed to accept the payment as a settlement on the account. That was November 1.
Please, someone, tell me how about 2 months ago I suddenly started receiving calls from another collection agency on THE SAME ACCOUNT? I tried explaining that this matter had been resolved about a year ago but they (LTD Collections) were insistent that I needed to submit payment to them or documentation of the payment that was made to OSI in the form of a receipt.
It seriously took me a couple of months, but yesterday I was finally able to find the letter from OSI saying that I had submitted the payment and that they and the creditor had accepted it.
When I asked LTD how they even got the account, they told me that OSI had gone bankrupt and that it was possible that they never submitted the payment notice to the creditor, which seems odd since I didn't hear from a collector for a year, but I don't know a great deal about how collections work.
Anyhow, I still don't know if this is true, but something is certainly fishy, and I'm not sure if it's with OSI, LTD, or possibly they are in collaboration together to try and get people to double pay. Truthfylly, if I weren't able to find the letter from OSI, I really don't know what would have happened. Heck, I just faxed the letter to LTD so I guess I still don't know what's going to happen.
LTD is just as bad as OSI - LTD representatives have hung up on me twice, but of course called again the very next day, "with a very important matter that it would be in my best interest to call them back on" - oh, and they wish me "luck" on their messages - nice touch.
I know that this is supposed to be about OSI, and somehow it is, becasue I did pay them, but somehow, the debt didn't get resolved, which I assume is becasue OSI didn't resolve it with the creditor. Oh, and one other thing is that the amount that LTD said I owed was 50% more than what I paid OSI.
