To all consumers currently in the grip of this sadistic, criminal, abusive predatory lender:
Dealing with this company, their so-called "customer service" agents (india & orlando), cost me the life of my husband. He finally gave up hope and killed himself in november over the continued stress and duress that we were subjected to by this "evil empire". Subsequent to his death, they (ocwen, orlando, fl) continued the same behavior for another 16 months as i struggled to work through the continuous, endless, red tape that they generate with no regard for the consumer or their rights under the law. I was finally able to sell my home, and cover the excessive, unstable, constantly increasing (in spite of making payments under forebearance inclusing additional amounts) payoff (there were 3 separate amounts issued on just the day of closing!), so i feel that i have some relevant advice to share.
Make your payments via western union! From experience (see my previous postings on this site), the only way to guarantee that your payment will be posted in a timely fashion is to send it to them via western union!
Again, the only way to guarantee posting of your payment on the date it is received in their offices is to send it via western union! This provides an electronic record of when you sent your payment, and when it was received by them - they have to post accurately the transactions that are posted directly to their bank account - they hate this, but tough. It will cost 12.95 to send, but that is nothing compared to the stress of having payments received and not posted (sometimes until after they are considered "late", which in my experience has been the norm). They cannot say they did not receive payments, because there is a confirmation sent back on all western union deposits to their bank account, and western union will gladly provide confirmation to you.
Do not call the toll-free numbers to attempt to talk to the so-called "customer service" department. Call the local number with the 407 area code - this goes direct to the orlando, florida offices - not india (where the contact notes seem to never make it onto your account). Keep notes on all contacts with this company or their reps. Dedicate a spiral notebook only to them and keep it near your phone! Their reps often do not make any note to the account, so keep your own - date, time, name of rep, notes on conversation, and get the reps company id number (many will give a false name if asked for their last name). If the rep gives you any resistance, ask for their supervisor or unit manager (i worked in a cubicle farm before - everyone has a boss - even the bosses!) if the supervisor or unit manager gives you resistance, ask to speak directly with the ombudsman, or call the number for the ombudsman directly.
This is also where all of any correspondence with them regarding your account should go - certified, return receipt, signature required! This often is better than a phone call, because you will have a confirmed record of their receipt of these communications.
Keep copies of everything you send them - everything!
The first, i repeat - first, time that you have any problem with this company or it's representatives - contact your state's attorney general office and file a complaint, contact the bbb and file a complaint, and any other appropriate authority in your location.
It is unfortunate that anyone dealing with this company - whether you are having problems with them or not, should protect themselves and act as if they are building a lawsuit - but that is in fact the safest and only way that any relationship with this company should be handled.
Don't be afraid - they will threaten, harass, mishandle, and abuse if you give them opportunity. But if you are armed and prepared, you have a chance to keep them under control.
