Well, I'm another victim of Northern Leasing. I own a Software Development Company. Me and a partner develop custom software for government agencies. We are not a retailer. Our revenue comes from the signing of very large government contracts. Close to a million dollars per contract. We just got done signing our first:). We do not need nor have any use for a credit card terminal.
It started several months back. I received a credit card terminal in the mail. I Figured it was some desparate company trying to get my business so I placed it in the corner of my office figuring the company would call me with their sales pitch. A few weeks passed and I received a few messages on my machine from Northern leasing and a company called free credit card processing in regards to accounts that were opened in my name. I started to become concerned after listening to a message from Rosie with Northern Leasing Systems asking me to return her call and let them know if I received my credit card machine. She asked that I return the call and she gave me a lease number to use when I make the call.
Steve from Free Credit Card Processing left a message wanting me to complete my application and confirm my desire to have them provide credit card processing. I called Free Credit Card Processing and was told that someone in my company had opened up an account. I told him that I am one of two people that represent my company and neither of us opened this account. He was very helpful and immediately closed the account.
At that point I called the police, FBI and the social security office to let them know that I am a victim of identity theft. I also purchased fraud alerts with the top three credit companies.
I called Northern Leasing and told Rosie my situation. She claimed that everything would be taken care of. Several weeks later I received a bill in the mail from Northern Leasing. I immediatly called the company and was told that the account is open and that I am two months behind in my payments. I informed them that I was a victim of identity theft. I was told to send them a signed afidavid from the FTC and they would then close the account. I started to become suspicious of them when they wanted me to give them my information so that they could verify that it was me. I did not want to provide them with anything.
Here is an important note to anyone dealing with them. DO NOT provide information to verify who you are. You are basically either filling in missing data or verifying that they have the correct data. Also, beware. If you send them a signed document you basically gave them your signature. Since they claim everything they do is via fax, it would be easy to take that signature and use it on their fraudulant documentation.
Since then I had my attorney send a letter verifying that I was a victim of identity theft and they are to close all accounts and send me all the artifacts used to open the account so I can turn them over to the propert authorities. Again they called back and claimed I needed to fill out a fraud form and sign it then they will close the account. I told them that I will not send them anything. Everything will go through my attorney.
I have received dozens of messages sometimes 8 or 9 a day from the company notifying me that I need to call them. They are now starting to call my cell phone and leave messages on it. I am amused at their behavior and they don't know it, but they are digging a hole for themselves. Their story doesn't add up and each day they are making it worse.
I have read several of the entries here from other victims and from a few employees claiming that this company is a victim of bad sales people. Don't even fall for that. A company that has bad sales people doesn't continue to harras an individual that has had an attorney contact them concerning identity theft. I truly believe that the company is responsible for all of it. It is unbelievable that they are still in business. Where I live there is a few news programs that help people like us. As well as a few radio stations that provide attorney's etc. I'm going to wait a bit longer. (they have until the 17th of this month to cease) before I begin enjoying the smack down I'm going to put on them.
