I was required to have SR-22 (not for drunkenness, by the way.) When the time came to renew, I phoned my GEICO agent and provided my checking account number so that
my renewal premium could be withdrawn. I was asked, "You want just the same policy you've had so far, right?" I agreed, since I'd moved to Hawai'i recently enough that the only kind of policy I'd ever had with them was an SR-22. The premium was withdrawn, so I thought everything had been taken care of.
Then one day I missed my estimate on the length of a yellow light and was stopped. Guess what!
GEICO had switched my policy to a non-SR-22. I
tried to get my agent to write up a declaration
that I had reason to believe I still had an SR-22 policy. I got no response from that office or the national office.
I had to pay a $500 fine for GEICO's mistake.
